COMMENT: Yes, there is nothing wrong with your eyesight. This pipe indeed measures a staggering 6 inches, or 153 mm in height!! As I don't want you to fall asleep while reading this comment, I'll strive to be brief. The shape is incredible! I couldn't think of a better name to describe it than "Pickaxe"; hope you agree. Again, I wonder how big the ebauchon was! Marco again did an incredible job drilling this pipe. The draught hole is central all the way, and the exit lands right on the tobacco chamber base. The chamber is SO DEEP that in order to see the bore, you need to use light! The grain is exceptional, with some fabulous bird's eye on the outer and inner sides of the bowl and crossgrain on the two remaining. Also, the bowl rim is all bird's eye. The Army Mount is more than befitting, esp. with the gorgeous horn shank insert. It's really impressive how balanced and light in weight the pipe seems to be. There are a few small sandpits that will definitely take you some time to locate, the most evident are the tiny ones on the bowl top. This pipe is worthy of becoming a member of any of the best pipe shape collections in the world. |
