COMMENT: I hope you don't mind if I repeat an introduction I just wrote for another pipe. When I saw this pipe, I starting thinking about Cavicchi and the Apple shape. I went back to pictures of previous pipes that I have acquired and sold over the past 10 years, and I came to the conclusion that the Apple is not only one of the most regularly produced shape, but also that Cavicchi never really sticks to one or even two or even three interpretations of the classic Apple. It's quite impressive to put all those pictures together and see the subtle and yet evident differences among them. This pipe is not exception. It's a very subtle combination of the Billiard and the Apple, and I chose the latter as a shape definition because I believe it is the dominant shape. Here, Claudio opted for nothing decorative, no inserts, no band, no metal, etc. The pipe is what it was originally designed to be made up of: wood and acrylic (or other material), bowl-shank and mouthpiece. I hope this pipe works as a reminder of how elegant and graceful pipes inherently are. Last but not least, I hope you see the absolutely breathtaking grain. Believe me, I have seen pipes sold as the pipes with the perfect Straight Grain though it has maximum half the beauty and consistency of the grain on this Cavicchi. |
