COMMENT:

If you see this pipe without looking at the brand name, you think that it's one of those old, traditional Dunhill or Charatan shapes. Well, it's Radice, every bit of it, and I simply love it. What I really like about it is the true classic, conservative and traditional flare it has. I used the word "freeform" simply because I would have expected a slightly taller bowl, to make it a true Billiard. This one here is an unusual combination of three shapes: The Billiard, The Apple, and The Pot. The straightforward, tapered mouthpiece is definitely an important element and choice in creating this very rare classic appeal.

COMMENT:

This pipe is MASSIVE! Let me tell you in numbers: (!) The bowl is 59mm (2.32 inches), and the bowl diameter is 42mm (1.65 inches). The bowl walls are quite thick, and the shank has this unique light-colored insert. The mouthpiece is an Army Mount, and the shape of the mouthpiece does remind me of a classic Peterson one. The grain is fabulous, with some incredibly tight and uniform Bird's Eye on most of the pipe and some Crossgrain on the rest. It is the apparent and seeming simplicity of the shape that attests to the skill and experience that the Radice guys have. This is a rare occasion to acquire a very, very large, straight pipe, by a well known maker, with beautiful grain, and for a very reasonable price.
